Yet another Looming Threat

Pakistan's weak government cedes territory to Taliban thugs.  The Taliban use this territory to stage further militarized take over of more territory.  I doubt, in its weakened state, that Pakistan can hold off the Taliban.

It will be interesting to see how President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton address this threat.  Clinton at least understands the mortal threat that this represents, but there is little that she alone can do about it.

The thought of a Nuclear Taliban is among the scariest things I can think of.  The time to act is now ~ before they have a chance to really establish themselves.  Surely NATO and even the UN understand the gravity of this situation.

The Breakdown & Bad Parenting

(This may offend some, but so be it)
We know that the breakdown of the Standard family dynamic is responsible for most of the social ills today.  But what precipitated the breakdown?  This breakdown can be traced significantly to the Feminist movement of the 50's, 60's, and 70's. (I'll come back to this in a moment)
  • Households that require two incomes to support their lifestyle are living beyond their means.
When both parents work full time, energy and focus that should be spent on the kids is taken away from them.
  • When both parents work full time, it takes time, energy and focus away from the spouse.
  • When both parents work full time, they are often too "exhausted" to go to church regularly; they want their "down time".
These factors lead to a breakdown in the fundamental structure of the family unit. Parents are too exhausted to do the business of parenting after their "real world" job.

Now, how is it that Feminists caused this? Simply and insidiously. They twisted the meaning of "Equality" to mean something that it does not. Don't misunderstand me:  I view women as my equals in terms of the value that they bring to the table. But the idea that just because two things are of equal value, they must be the same, and do the same things, and perform the same functions, and produce the same results is ridiculous. If I have a $5,000.00 car and a $5,000.00 hot tub, they are equally valuable, but do completely different things. Equality is not “Sameness”.

What’s really sad is that by twisting that meaning and propagating the myth that in order to have value, a woman must do all the same things a man can do, the feminist movement actually denigrates women and diminishes their value. They denigrate women by insinuating that their natural role and what they already bring to the table simply “isn’t good enough”. They devalue women by trying to shoehorn women into roles they were not meant for, many of whom subsequently perform at a deficit to men, all the while neglecting the functions and roles for which they are meant, thus netting a product of lesser value.

In a family when both parents are working outside of the house, the balance of the family dynamic is thrown WAY off. This contributes to low church attendance, high divorce rates, teen delinquency, lack of parental supervision, etc.  There's an added evil bonus too:  Kids who grow up in families like this don't get to see how a family unit should work, and thus have no good frame of reference when they have families of their own.

I’ll grant that there are some generalizations in my rant, but overall, it's undeniable.

This Too Shall Pass

Hugh has a great post this morning - Read it HERE

In times like this, it is easy to become short-sighted, and hard to see beyond the storm.  But like a storm, there's blue skies and sunshine on the other side of those stormclouds.

A very wise woman who comforted me in times of doubt and pain once told me,  "this too shall pass".  And as was the case with the broken arm, the skinned knee, the minor and major failures,  This too, indeed shall pass.

True Leadership

McCain Leads by example in suspending campaign to deal with the financial market crisis.
Not only a smart move, but another example of why he is better equipped.

The Phantom Menace.....

I find myself this morning trying to wrap my brain around whats going on in the financial markets.  Trying to decipher the true underpinnings of the actions being taken by the government and how they relate to the rest of the political scene.
Is this endless string of corporate bail-outs really necessary?
Is it simply a string of really bad and fiscally un-conservative moves by an incompetent governing body?
Or is it more insidious? Has a lack of discipline in our financial markets opened the door for some entity to do what the soviet empire couldn't? Is this how socialism will slither its way into our economy?

For some reason, as I think about this, my mind keeps wandering to Star Wars: Episode I "The Phantom Menace".
Where Barak Obama can be likened to Darth Maul - The overt face of the threat - openly socialist.
Socialism / Communism is the Sith - an adversary long thought to be extinct.
The Intergalactic Republic is the US
And of course the Senate is the Senate...
The Trade Federation is the Dept of the Treasury. - interesting to note that the trade federation were really just pawns - being used.
So the question is.... who is our Palpatine?  Who is Darth Sideous? (Soros?)

Do we find ourselves, like the republic, engaged in battle with the overt threat (Barak "Darth Maul" Obama) whilst the phantom menace of socialism looms in the shadows, waiting for the opportune moment (like last week) to pounce, and begin state control of financial institutions.....

Fundamentals Are Strong

John McCain should have stuck to his guns on the comment that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong"
Because he was right.
On September 5, 2008, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released new jobs figures for August. Nonfarm payroll employment decreased by 84,000 jobs in August, and the unemployment rate rose to 6.1 percent. While these numbers are disappointing, what is most important is the overall direction the economy is headed. Last week, the economy posted a strong gain of 3.3 percent at an annual rate in the second quarter, led by growth in consumer spending, exports, and a well-timed and appropriately sized stimulus package. This level of growth demonstrates the resilience of the economy in the face of high energy prices, a weak housing market, and difficulties in the financial markets. Orders for durable goods have been rising in recent months. In addition, productivity growth over the past four quarters has been strong at 3.4 percent – above the averages for each of the past three decades over the course of the Administration.

I don't know why he won't just enunciate that 3.3% annualized growth and 3.4% productivity growth is very good.  6.1% unemployment isn't great, but it's not catastrophic either.

Yes, our financial markets are in a degree of turmoil, but the financial markets do not equal the sum total of the economy.a

Ted Nugent Rocks

In an interview with the Christian Science Monitor,  Ted Nugent summed up the Hollywood Elite very well:

Nugent, an outspoken conservative, is a minority in the entertainment community. When asked why the celebrity crowd seems to better connect with the Democratic party, Nugent becomes the Nugent you know on TV — unfiltered.

“With all due respect, many in the entertainment industry are deep into mind-altering substance abuse, and when one’s logic and intellectual calculating powers are replaced with dopey feel-good, fantasy- driven denial, the democratic party serves them well,” Nugent blasted.

Do Your part to serve the Mother Country!

Komrade Biden is at it again:
This from Good Morning America today:

"We want to take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people," Biden said in an interview on ABC's Good Morning America.
Noting that wealthier Americans would indeed pay more, Biden said: "It's time to be patriotic ... time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut."

I'm not even sure where to begin with all the things that are wrong with these statements.

I suppose a good place to start would be:  "We want to take money" .  On its own, that is alarming if not dastardly, but when you read the next line:
"and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people", you see the truly frightening nature of how these socialists think.
Aside from the obvious desire for government mandated redistribution of wealth, I find another part of this statement disturbing.  Its just one simple word, but it reveals a fatal flaw in their thinking: "and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people".  Putting it back infers that it was taken from them in the first place.  As if there were some finite pool of wealth from which we can all draw equally, and the evil rich have taken more than their fair share and hoarded it, somehow depriving some poor soul of prosperity that was rightfully theirs.  The problem is that it is an un-truth.  Wealth is not a finite resource.  Komrade Biden might as well have just come out and said: "From each according to his ability and To each according to his need"

Next,  he infers that paying more taxes to the Federal government is the patriotic thing to do.  ARE YOU KIDDING?!?!  He's not even trying to hide the communism. I wonder what the founding fathers would have to say about that. **Edit** A Right Brainer has an excellent post that sums it up well. **EDIT**

"Time to jump in, Time to be part of the deal"?!?!  So the fact that 95% of the taxes are paid by the top 10 percent of earners isn't enough?

McCain should play ads with this clip every day until the election.

But he's such a Powerful Orator!

... and so were Adolf Hitler, David Koresh, Jim Jones.....

...and Vladimir Lennin - who's policies were pretty much in-line with all of the Dalibama's campaign rhetoric.
Do you really think that is all it is?  Rhetoric?  Or, like me, do you see the far more alarming prospect that he actually means what he's saying?
I think his intentions are far more nefarious than most care to believe.
He intends for the government to weave its tentacles into every facet of your life.  That's not freedom.

Remember these tiny bits of wisdom:
1. A government big enough to care for all your needs can just as easily take from you, and ultimately dictate your needs.
2. A government big enough to bail you out, can just as easily sink you.
3. The government NEVER relinquishes power once acquired.

We've already played this game.  Socialism has been weighed, measured and found wanting.

They Really think you're stupid.

Pelosi's House passes this farce of an "Energy Bill ".

They Really think you're stupid.

This new 290-page piece of legislation was written behind closed doors and did not go through the normal committee process. It was introduced just before midnight last night, only hours before it is scheduled for a vote.
In addition, it does not allow amendments or Republican alternatives.

Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN):
"They say “yes” to drilling, but not in Alaska, not in the Eastern Gulf and not within 50 miles. They say “yes” to drilling but states must decide, even though they get absolutely no revenues for choosing to drill. I guess states are just going to allow drilling out of the goodness of their hearts. They say “yes” to drilling but litigation rules will allow environmental lawyers to tie up all leases from the very day they’re filed."

Partisan special interests as usual for Pelosi.  I'm sure they were flooded with calls from constituants telling them to drill.  So as a means of keeping the $$ flowing from their Green $pecial interest groups - and others, they offer this sneaky meaningless bill.  A far cry from comprehensive, this bill does not allow for more nuclear power, clean coal / gasification,  Oil shale development, or Alaskan exploration.  and the only offshore drilling that is allowed, is where the oil isn't.

This is an insult!
